Making up a wiring harness for the electric fans I plan to put in the Jag. The fans themselves are the radiator and A/C fan from a late 90s Honda Civic. If these prove inadequate I’ll find a set of larger Buick fans which are easily able to cool an SBC. The wiring is pretty simple, one fan is on with ignition, the other fan is on with A/C. This is how the fans in the XJ-S originally were (more or less, one mechanical always on fan and a very small electric fan that kicked on with A/C).

All that’s left now is to find a switched +12v in the engine bay to trigger the “on with ignition” fan relay. The relays sit next to the strut tower brace that is also where the whole harness grounds out to, and is a convenient few inches from the A/C clutch trigger wire. Nice. Hopefully tomorrow the weather will be nice enough to ziptie the wiring in place and give the fans a test run before unbolting the horrible unbalanced flex fan and its also ill-fitting shroud. Another benefit of these fans is that, being electric, they can run at full speed even when the engine is at low idle and hopefully help the engine bay heat soak issue I’ve been having.

Those should have plenty of power just make sure they are on the right side of the radiator.

They’re both puller fans. Torquey little bastards, too.

I bought pushers and installed them as pullers on a project car I used to have. They were wired to toggle switch on the dash.

That wire does not look like a heavy enough gauge to handle the amperage..

Same gauge as the wire in the Honda

During research lately I have discovered second generation Tauruses have amazing electric fans. I guess hot rodders have known this and made them relatively scarce in junk yards. I am attempting to source one without buying new.
